Haha, fictional Salty is jealous! But it's very appropriate, because it's so very apparent that Ian has a huge crush on Joe Mauer. Pretty sure Ian loved it when this happened. I would read fic about those two together! I too love imagining what gets said on the bench and in the clubhouse about certain things. And sometimes what they actually say is way better than anything I could imagine.
Glad you enjoyed the zombie fic :) I'm not a big zombie fangirl either but I love the post-apocalypse setting and think it makes for good romance.
The short answer is that yes I am still writing! But I am in the midst of several really big fics and had a really busy summer so it's been a while since I posted anything. I'm hoping to finish something soon.
Please do keep writing! Especially in the dreaded off-season! So deadly boring + I go crazy looking for scraps of baseball. It's totally depressing.
The setting for the zombie fic was very The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
I'm always trying to read lips + living for the little moments where the camera captures something in the dugout. I'm sad. I've noticed this year that the Rangers are very into hair ruffling. I LOVE THAT. But I always want to know things about baseball - like when they eat dinner, what do they eat, when do they get to the stadium, what do they do on the plane...even with all the social media we rarely get a glimpse of this. I sound like an insane creepy fan. I want to assure you that I'm not...but...ehhhh.....
I'm actually going to a game tonight + won't be able to watch the Rangers for the 1st time since I put up the $$$ to watch them on MLB TV.
And doesnt EVERYONE have a crush on Joe Mauer? Like, I feel it's legally required. I read a superhot [but super short] fic about Mauer + Morneau + catcher's gear as bondage...that image has been permanently stuck in my mind grapes.
But I feel like I don't know as much about Ian as I do about Mauer. I've been a fan of both of them for years, but I'm learning....
I will try my best to write more! I usually manage to post more writing during the offseason since I don't have to be keeping track of games every day :) I agree that it's depressing and writing keeps me occupied.
I love The Road so thank you for that comparison!!
Haha I love that you watch the Rangers closely enough to notice the hair ruffling! I have to say it's taken YEARS to amass the tiniest bit of info about stuff that goes on on the plane. It's still mostly a mystery of course but I love random interviews or other tidbits that give clues about it. It used to be that Rangers Insider episodes would go up on their website and those were a great resource, but since they signed a new deal with FSSW a couple years ago those have disappeared. It's very sad. I don't think you're creepy though haha. Or if you are, we all are here, and this is a safe place to admit it ;)
Hope you're having fun at the game! Which game is it?
I haven't read that fic about Mauer/Morneau! Will have to look for it. I do agree that it's impossible not to think Joe Mauer is terribly appealing :) Ian is endearing and complicated in so many ways and for me, at least, the more i know about him the more I am a fan. I am just dreading the day when he is no longer a Ranger. It's going to be very hard.
I can't see any reason why the Rangers wouldn't continue to want Ian to hang around. And he's happy, right? So I think it will be a happy union for some time. But I know what you mean about losing favourite players. I've never actually had a favourite player play for my favourite team. If that makes sense?
I'll admit I was 1st attracted to Ian because he seemed to look like a baseball playing James Franco + there ain't nothing wrong with that. But now the attraction is much deeper.
I'll find that Mauer/Morneau mini-fic thing for you tomorrow. Joe Mauer just makes me happy. I'm super bummed about his injury. Hope he's going to be okay in 2014.
I live in Toronto - I went to see the Yankees v. Blue Jays - with my eyeballs peeled to the outfield out-of-town scoreboard for practically the whole game! Anyway, my primary team of support is the Yankees, but I also cheer for the Blue Jays, Twins + of course, Rangers! I'm a busy gal. It was an okay game + I got to see Mo for the last time so I was happy. Lagged a bit before the Yankees came back so I spent time creating "platonic friend fiction" involving players on both teams.
OMG. I feel like I've found a kindred spirit! I can talk about Ranger hair ruffling + not have someone think I'm nuts! I know so little "inside baseball" stuff because we don't have any shows like that, but obviously they would be about the Blue Jays. So I try to absorb a lot on Twitter + online generally. Did you see the Ranger rookies dressed up on the plane? THEY ARE ASKING FOR SLASH. Seriously.
And you know The Road! And you like it! Yeah!
I started foolishly reading the chat fic before the game + can I say that Ian's "gay sex event" comment is, like, The. Best. Thing. Ever. Love it. So precious.
Anyway, I feel like I'm hogging up your comments with my gushing + excitement. Let me know if I'm becoming obnoxious. I'll try to spread my commenting around to other things. I don't have any friends IRL that I watch baseball with or talk baseball with so it's nice to feel @ home somewhere. I talk online with guys, but obviously not really about this stuff!
They will probably at least consider trading Ian because they have Profar and Elvis :/ It's a real possibility that Ian will be gone soon but I'm hoping that's not the case. I don't know that anything will be as devastating for me in baseball fandom as when Salty was traded away from the Rangers, and it's even worse that he's constantly giving quotes about how he was miserable in Texas, but at least then I still had Ian on the team. It'll be worse when both of them are gone.
I got your link to the Mauer/Morneau fic -- Thanks! Will read it soon. I hope Mauer can still be a catcher when he comes back, aw. You're right, there IS something about the catchers! And I find all their gear super hot too lol.
I cheer for multiple teams too--even though I consider the Rangers my ~team~ I think I'm more a fan of individual players, which goes against what most baseball fans think is honorable lol. Because of certain players I've been a fan of the Braves, Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Rays, Royals, and several minor league teams at various points. But despite my very favorite player being traded to the Red Sox I've never been able to bring myself to root for them D: I was so incredibly bummed that he ended up there and it's a constant source of baseball grief for me lol.
Do you post your "platonic friend fiction" anywhere? I think we need more baseball fic around livejournal! You're right, it's so awesome to find kindred spirits and I really really wish the livejournal slash fandom were more active, because I still think it's the best venue for this kind of discussion. I post a lot of more fluff-type content because there are tons of resources for the more hardcore baseball stuff around the internet, but I love when people point out funny videos or tweets or post pics of the players off the field and comment on their hair and style choices and inside jokes and all that.
I'm glad you enjoyed Ian's gay sex event comment :D Hope you continue to enjoy it if you read more! Don't worry about "hogging" my comment space -- it's been lovely to hear from you and I hope you will stick around! It's not obnoxious at all. I'm just happy that once in a while someone finds our little slash community (and not because they want to repost our stuff on mainstream baseball websites to make fun of us). :)
Yeah - totally uncalled for to be publicly mocked + such...+ yet - without that I wouldn't have found any of this! I don't even know how I stumbled across it!
I'm loving the chat fic. It's all dialogue, which I know is a challenge [it's a challenge for me + why I don't write a lot]. And the fact that it seems realistic + natural - that really speaks to your abilities. You've really given them a "voice." And honestly, I'm not a fan of schmoopy stuff @ all + I don't find your stuff to be that way @ all. It's just very...natural - not too saccharine or anything. Oh + I always have called Ian "Ian baby"...who knew I had something in common with Salty? We probably couldn't be more different...!
Yup - I love that stuff as well - the funny stuff, the true "inside baseball" stuff. But where I chat about baseball it's all serious business. I get accused of being superficial + a lot of fans get uptight about players having fun or about commenting @ all on appearances. I do have a love for the GAME, but honestly, it's a game. It's supposed to be fun. So let's have fun? Also, as a girl I already feel like my opinions on sport are really undervalued...so the second I start talking about looks or something I'm automatically discounted for all of my other opinions. So I hold my tongue.
Also, people think I'm nuts for supporting four different teams. Goes against some sanctimonious baseball code or something. Fans are super intense about this.
I don't post my platonic friend fiction anywhere because it doesn't exist yet! I seriously just thought it up @ the game last night. My BF pointed out that it wasn't really fiction-length, more like Tweets. I'm considering setting up a Twitter account for the, like, three people that would be interested. Heh.
I'm glad you said something about Boston. I'm a pretty stereotypical Yankees fan in few ways...except for my extreme + utter distaste for the Boston Red Sox. I didn't want to offend you! Ummm - here is something fun I can contribute that is Red Sox/Salty related. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spB1FdVnXtA I was actually watching this game live. They didn't stay for the entire game because a-hole Blue Jays fans [seriously - they suck!] started taunting them mercilessly so they left.
I highly doubt if Mauer will be catching in 2014 + beyond. The Twins have invested so much in him - they don't want to risk that. And they've been pressuring him before now to give up catching. I think it's a done deal. Unfortunately! And I know that Joe wants to continue catching as well.
I would think that Texas is a better environment than Boston. I mean, I say this as a Yankees fan, too - it takes a certain type of person to play for Boston + New York - very tough environment. Oh but it must be nice to be blessed with so much infield talent in Texas! The rest of my teams are understaffed in that area...I've seen Blue Jays fans talking about getting Kinsler + as much as I would love that - I wouldn't want to deprive you! And now with MLB TV I can watch all the games anyway. The Rangers seem to have such a good rapport together - I wouldn't want to see that broken up!
